TUCSON BOTANICAL GARDENS
This project was made possible through the Tucson Botanical Gardens and Gregg and Robin Lansing. We were subcontractors on the site under their creative direction.
Desert Ironwood & Epoxy "Art" Benches
We made two custom art benches featuring desert ironwood and a green-dyed epoxy. The larger bench features a desert ironwood branch across the middle. Both benches have a base of tongue-and-groove clear Douglas fir over a fabricated steel frame.
Traditional Japanese Fence with Shou Sugi Ban Finish
We collaborated with Robin Lansing to design and build a traditional Japanese fence from Douglas fir and bamboo. The fence includes joined Douglas Fir with bamboo crossbeams, then finished with the traditional shou sugi ban method of burning wood to seal it from weather and wear.
Japanese Gallery Outside Douglas Fir Restoration and Custom Cabinet Faces
Three outdoor facilities constructed from Douglas fir near the Zen Garden needed to be sealed and appropriately protected from the elements. We coated all three buildings with a high-quality tung oil.
Additions to Project
We built two Douglas fir gallery door cases to match the inside of the newly established Zen Garden and Meditation Room.
Mesquite and Teak Benches
The Tucson Botanical Gardens has a large collection of teak benches that need refinishing. We stripped, sanded, and coated all the patio furniture. We also resurfaced the long mesquite built-in benches beneath the Zen Garden ramada. The main entrance to the gardens also received two custom-built mesquite and steel benches.
